Stamped Concrete and Exposed Aggregate Sealing

Decorative/Stamped Power Washing

It’s a well-known fact that Decorative/Stamped concrete surfaces are expensive to install and require specialist maintenance. That’s why we apply many of the steps already listed in our Speciality Stone Section when it comes to preparing. The same specialist approach also applies to the sealers SealKastle uses on these high-end surfaces.

We specifically use a 2 coat process on Decorative/Stamped concrete. The 1st coat is a primer coat that adheres to the surface and creates a base for the upper layer. The 2nd coat of high gloss non-slip sealer is then applied to give the surface a lustrous shine and protection. Both coats very high grade and breathable, allowing the concrete to breathe. Unfortunately, many decorative concrete surfaces are left with hazes from previous company’s cheap sealers and improperly applied products. The good news is, Sealkastle specializes in stripping these surfaces, if required, with hot water, high pressure and no chemicals – a totally environmental solution!

Due to their absorbent nature and vulnerability to fading, chipping and flaking – SealKastle only uses the manufacturers recommended sealers that are specifically designed to absorb deep into the decorative surface, creating a long-lasting durable protective coat. Don’t be fooled by the ‘one solution fits all’ approach that’s often sold by inexperienced companies looking for their next sale. Remember, Decorative/Stamped concrete surfaces are not the same as interlocking stone or similar and must be treated accordingly.

Maintaining Your Surfaces

It’s important to know that stamped concrete loses a great deal of colour if not maintained properly. Leading manufacturers advise that you seal your surfaces every two to four years depending on the material and sealers applied. Naturally, this recommendation makes great economic sense when you consider the cost of the initial investment in such a high-end purchase. That’s why protecting interlocking with premium-grade sealers is essential to the life of your surface. Wet-look and natural-look sealers are both made with high-grade components to equally protect the surface with the desired look. They work by creating a protective microporous transparent coating that also enhances the original colour. Premium grade sealers also reduce oil and dirt penetration, making cleaning easier. Because the sealers penetrate deep into the surface – maximum adhesion and durability are maintained. Unlike cheaper alternatives, Premium grade sealers will not peel or discolour and are highly resistant to the elements (freeze-thaw cycles, sun, rain, etc.), calcium and salt and hot tire pick-up.
