New Asphalt Surfaces

SealKastle – Quality by Nature

For over 25 years, SealKastle companies have been restoring some of the most poorly installed and tarnished surfaces. When It comes to the INSTALLATION of NEW surfaces, SealKastle has the expertise and knowledge required to provide high-quality and commercial grade installations that will last much longer than alternative installations for similar surfaces.

All surface installations come down to some basic rules of thumb for longevity and by following these basic principles:

1- Better bases- Whether it is a concrete driveway, new interlocking, or asphalt, it all comes down to what is under the surface. Better quality and deeper bases for interlock, material underlays, and more reinforcement of rebar all play a huge part in how long your will surfaces last. SealKastle Quality ensures that bases are installed according to code and beyond because we believe that, as with all things in life, your base is what you build on for future longevity,

2- Quality Techniques – Even though most installations will appear to have been carried out in the same way, there are many procedures that (if not followed properly) can result in surface failure. The way in which concrete and expansion joints are stamped and finished, the consistency of material mixtures for wall overlays, and temperatures of installations all play a huge role in the final outcome and longevity of any surface.

3- Materials used – Defining the “right material” can be a relatively small or unnoticeable difference in type or quality. However, this can mean the difference between an installation that is either long-lasting or a failure.

4- Tools and equipment – We believe that the saying “with the right equipment a project can be done in a fraction of the time” is very true and we strive to live this out in all our operations.

5- Finally, experience and/or the training of installers. Many fly-by-night companies have little or no experience, use the incorrect techniques and, when things fail, will not answer phone calls or will simply disappear. SealKastle uses highly experienced installers with backgrounds you can trust. With us, things simply do not go wrong and if touch-ups or maintenance is required, you can be assured that SealKastle will be there for your full support.

New Asphalt

It is important to use the correct asphalt mix. Opinions differ as to what makes the best driveway mix. Generally speaking, driveway mixes should consist of more asphalt binders and fewer air voids than highway mixes.

Many experts prefer their driveway surface mix to have a finer gradation than highway mix. This gives a finer surface texture and smooth appearance. SealKastle prefers a mix composed of good angular aggregate with stone-on-stone contact (this is sometimes called aggregate interlock). SealKastle avoids sand and rounded particles as they don’t have the strength of angular particles, even though they make a pretty mix.

Installation Procedure: This involves the removal and disposal of existing asphalt and topping up/compacting existing base.

New Gravel – the most popular type is crush or limestone. New gravel is topped-up, placed and compacted.

HL8 – Base coat (HL8 is a strong base coat of asphalt that is usually applied to parking lots or roads and is suitable for heavy-duty traffic.

HL3 – Finish Coat (HL3 is normally used on residential roads and parking lots) and it forms a smooth texture. When applied, heavy-duty rollers and compaction apply.

SealKastle always makes use of a commercial grade 3-inch compacted binder course as this can take heavier loads.

In addition to sealing driveways for appearance purposes, sealing can also be used to preserve the pavement. Fuel-resistant, polymer-modified asphalt sealers can guard against spills. Once a driveway is paved and completed, the work is not completed: routine maintenance all year round is critical in order for the pavement to last. This includes a daily sweeping of debris, regular power washing, and seal coating 2 to 3 years after installation.

SealKastle offers maintenance programs that ensure your asphalt lasts and lasts … ask us about a maintenance program after paving or on previously paved surfaces.

All new asphalt installations will include future discounts on the complete … maintenance process when required in 2 to 3 years.
