Interlock Sealing
Our 6 Step Process
All stone surface maintenance starts with the correct preparation. Using specialist equipment that includes: rotary jet cleaners, high pressure (hot water) power washers and customized attachments – SealKastle™ successfully remove all dirt, mildew, moss and stubborn surface stains FOR GOOD. The best news is, this unique combination of hot water power washing in conjunction with environmentally friendly cleaners and stain removers, meets all manufacturers standards in preparation for sealing and sanding.
Step 1 – LEVELING AND REPAIRS
Step 2 – ECO FRIENDLY ACID WASH
We will then apply ECO-FRIENDLY ACID WASH on ALL SURFACES to etch the surface, to remove stains (depending on how deep and long the stains have been on the surfaces) and prepare the surface to receive and absorb sealer or stains.
Step 3 – HOT WATER HIGH PRESSURE STRIPPING
Step 4 – PREPARING OF SURFACES
On INTERLOCK Compaction: This step is essential to obtain solid, durable joints. Polymeric sand is spread all over the surface and a tamper goes over the entire surface to fully firm up the joints and push the polymeric sand deep into the joints. After the tamper compaction, several fine sweeps are done on the whole area. Blowers are then used to remove any excess dust from the surface. Wetting polymeric sand is essential in the curing process of the sand. Without wetting, and just adding sealer to joints, polymers do not harden all the way down into the joint. Most companies attempt to lower pricing by skipping the TAMPER COMPACTION and wetting process. On WOOD a light sanding is then done to prepare the surface for staining. We cannot sand the wood to be smooth or over sand, as this blocks the pores of the wood, not allowing the Quality Stains to penetrate the wood.
Step 5- INSPECTION AND PRE-CLEANING OF SURFACES
On INTERLOCK, DECORATIVE CONCRETE AND NATURAL STONE surfaces are reviewed prior sealing, to ensure debris or spots are minimized with specialty manufacturer recommended cleaners, that may have occurred during the drying stage. (some stains may not be removed fully due to many factors including stone porosity and age of stains). (customers are urged to assist in this process as Seal Kastle has no control over animal droppings, berries, debris, lawn care stains or any other marks that may occur during drying period and removal of these stains is not guaranteed)
Step 6 – SEALING OR STAINING
After INTERLOCK, DECORATIVE CONCRETE AND NATURAL STONE are prepared and inspected, Seal Kastle uses only quality sprayers and rollers, as required, to apply the sealers. Seal Kastle applies specified dry or wet-look sealer on INTERLOCK, DECORATIVE CONCRETE AND NATURAL STONE, as required by the customer, standard being wet-look.
On WOOD most of the stains we use are too thick for sprayer application. Depending on wood surface requirements drying times may vary. Specialty penetrating stains may take up to 5 or more days to dry penetrating the wood deeply. It is recommended to keep all areas traffic-free for the drying period. If regular stains are applied, as per customers’ requirements, the same care and quality applications are carried out. Conventional stains dry within hours and only need about 24 hours of isolation.
