New Interlock Surfaces

SealKastle – Quality by Nature

For over 25 years, SealKastle companies have been restoring some of the most poorly installed and tarnished surfaces. When It comes to the INSTALLATION of NEW surfaces, SealKastle has the expertise and knowledge required to provide high-quality and commercial grade installations that will last much longer than alternative installations for similar surfaces.

All surface installations come down to some basic rules of thumb for longevity and by following these basic principles:

1- Better bases- Whether it is a concrete driveway, new interlocking, or asphalt, it all comes down to what is under the surface. Better quality and deeper bases for interlock, material underlays, and more reinforcement of rebar all play a huge part in how long your will surfaces last. SealKastle Quality ensures that bases are installed according to code and beyond because we believe that, as with all things in life, your base is what you build on for future longevity,

2- Quality Techniques – Even though most installations will appear to have been carried out in the same way, there are many procedures that (if not followed properly) can result in surface failure. The way in which concrete and expansion joints are stamped and finished, the consistency of material mixtures for wall overlays, and temperatures of installations all play a huge role in the final outcome and longevity of any surface.

3- Materials used – Defining the “right material” can be a relatively small or unnoticeable difference in type or quality. However, this can mean the difference between an installation that is either long-lasting or a failure.

4- Tools and equipment – We believe that the saying “with the right equipment a project can be done in a fraction of the time” is very true and we strive to live this out in all our operations.

5- Finally, experience and/or the training of installers. Many fly-by-night companies have little or no experience, use the incorrect techniques and, when things fail, will not answer phone calls or will simply disappear. SealKastle uses highly experienced installers with backgrounds you can trust. With us, things simply do not go wrong and if touch-ups or maintenance is required, you can be assured that SealKastle will be there for your full support.

New Interlock

If Interlocking is carried out properly, it can last a lifetime. However, if it is not carried out properly, as is the case with most companies on Buy and Sell sites or informal businesses down the road, it will not last longer than 1 year and will start to twist, dip and fall apart, right after the winter freeze and thaw cycle. The deal you received on the Buy and Sell site or from the casual business around the corner, comes with the future price of re-digging your bases and re-setting the interlocking in the way it should have been done the first time.

At SealKastle, we do things right the first time and we have over 25 years of experience in repairing old, uneven jobs, performed by these too-good-to-be-true Buy and Sell site or informal companies (and even by those who have professional names but hire cheap untrained employees and cut corners) .

The key to any good interlocking job is the depth of the base and the material used under the interlock. SealKastle bases are a standard 8” (below the 2” stone) for walkways and patios (meaning the total depth of the dig is 10”). For driveways that need more support for heavy vehicles, we usually dig to 10” (below the 2” stone, so that the total depth of dig for the driveway is 12”).

The material that is used in the bases is just as important as the depth of the hole below the interlocking stone. SealKastle never uses SCREENING or, as we refer to it, GREY BLOOD. Screening is made up of clays and fine aggregate so that when water comes into contact with it, it literally BLEEDS AWAY.

Would you want this in your interlocking base, seeing that this is where water can access the bases when the joints are not prepared properly? SealKastle uses only high-quality HPB, which is a small crushed stone that PREVENTS MOVEMENT once installed. Why? Because HPB SELF LEVELS, SELF DRAINS, and SELF COMPACTS as it is only a small stone and once one small stone is set next to another, it just doesn’t move! No more GREY BLOOD.

Since we fix hundreds of poorly installed interlocking surfaces every year, SealKastle has become an expert in developing new Interlocking surfaces that last a lifetime. So, if you want your NEW interlock to look NEW for many years to come, SealKastle is the solution.

In addition, once SeaKastle completes your new interlocking project, SealKastle finishes your interlocking with the SealKastle 6-Step Hot Water Acid Wash, Next Gel Joint Technology (not just polymeric sand) and SEALS the entire surface with high solids Wet Look Sealers.

The result is that your interlocking looks like it comes out of a magazine. Also, because this process is carried out on your new surface, you will not need to worry about: 1- WEEDS, 2- WATER GETTING BELOW YOUR INTERLOCKING, 3- THIS PREVENTS YOUR INTERLOCKING FROM DETERIORATING AND LOOKING WORN.

Best of all is that every new interlocking job comes with the SealKastle™ 6-step process included. You will not get this procedure or technology from any other interlocking company- guaranteed!

So, what are you waiting for? If you want your Interlocking to last a lifetime and look like something out of a magazine, book your next project with SealKastle. Treating Surfaces Royally.

Maintaining Your Surfaces

It’s important to know that interlocking and stamped concrete loses a great deal of colour if not maintained properly. Leading manufacturers advise that you seal your surfaces every two to four years depending on the material and sealers applied. Naturally, this recommendation makes great economic sense when you consider the cost of the initial investment in such a high-end purchase. That’s why protecting interlocking with premium-grade sealers is essential to the life of your surface. Wet-look and natural-look sealers are high in acrylics. They work by creating a protective, transparent coating that also enhances the original colour. Premium grade sealers also reduce oil and dirt penetration, making cleaning easier. Because the sealers penetrate deep into the surface – maximum adhesion and durability are maintained. Unlike cheaper alternatives, Premium grade sealers will not peel or discolour and are highly resistant to the elements (freeze-thaw cycles, sun, rain, etc.), calcium and salt and hot tire pick-up.
